Introduction to North East

  • Day 1: Arrival in Guwahati

    Begin your journey in Guwahati, the largest city in Assam and the gateway to Northeast India. Upon arrival, visit the revered Kamakhya Temple, one of the oldest and most significant temples dedicated to the mother goddess Kamakhya. Afterward, explore the Assam State Museum to get an overview of the region's rich cultural heritage. In the evening, take a leisurely cruise on the Brahmaputra River, enjoying the scenic views and a beautiful sunset.

  • Day 2: Guwahati to Shillong

    In the morning, drive to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, known as the "Scotland of the East." En route, stop at the Umiam Lake, a man-made reservoir surrounded by lush greenery. Upon arrival in Shillong, visit the Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Cultures, which showcases the diverse cultures of Northeast India. Spend the evening at Police Bazaar, the main commercial hub, exploring local markets and trying some local cuisine.

  • Day 3: Shillong and Cherrapunji

    Take a day trip to Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on earth. On the way, visit the breathtaking Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Explore the Mawsmai Cave, a limestone cave known for its stalactites and stalagmites. In Cherrapunji, also visit the Seven Sisters Falls and the Eco Park, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and waterfalls. Return to Shillong in the evening.

  • Day 4: Shillong to Mawlynnong and Dawki

    Drive to Mawlynnong, acclaimed as the cleanest village in Asia. Walk through the picturesque village, admire the Living Root Bridge, and visit the Sky View Point for a view of the Bangladesh plains. Continue to Dawki, a small town on the India-Bangladesh border, famous for its crystal-clear Umngot River. Enjoy a boat ride on the river, where the water is so clear that the boats appear to be floating on air. Return to Shillong for the night.

  • Day 5: Shillong to Kaziranga National Park

    Depart Shillong and drive to Kaziranga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and relax. In the afternoon, embark on a jeep safari in the park's western range to spot rhinos, elephants, wild buffaloes, and various bird species. Return to your lodge for an overnight stay amidst nature.

  • Day 6: Kaziranga National Park

    Start your day with an early morning elephant safari, which offers a closer view of the park's wildlife and a unique perspective of the landscape. After breakfast, visit the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park to see a variety of orchids and learn about the region's flora and fauna. In the afternoon, take another jeep safari, this time in the park's central range, for more wildlife spotting. Spend the evening relaxing at your lodge.

  • Day 7: Kaziranga to Jorhat and Departure

    After breakfast, drive to Jorhat, a major city in Assam known for its tea gardens. Visit a tea estate to learn about the tea production process and enjoy a tea-tasting session. If time permits, explore the historical sites in Jorhat, such as the Thengal Bhawan and the Raja Maidam. Transfer to Jorhat Airport or continue your journey to the nearby town of Majuli, the world's largest river island, for an extended exploration of Northeast India.
